Getting Equipped to Manage Menopause
You might have noticed that menopause is having a bit of a moment. As more and more celebrities are outing themselves as menopausal, and influencers are raising awareness of the symptoms. You might well be asked by your patients to manage their menopause symptoms, so, how well-equipped are you to this? In this interview, we talk through how to manage the midlife consult, which really is an opportunity for us to make a big difference to women’s future health.
Our guest expert in this interview is menopause specialist Dr Kelly Teagle, a GP in Canberra specialising in Women’s health, and founder of WellFemme, a ground-breaking Telehealth menopause service.
Menopause is a huge process, it’s a brain problem as well as a body problem
In this interview we are discussing mental health during the menopause transition, which is a "window of vulnerability" for the development of menopausal associated depression in some women. Studies show that the incidence of depression in middle-aged women is between 20 and 30%. Depressive symptoms may develop or become more severe during the time of dynamic hormonal changes, so as GPs we need to listen to our female patients, and make sure we consider the underlying causes, like menopause, with the middle-aged woman.
Our guest expert in this interview is Prof. Jayashri Kulkarni, Professor of Psychiatry, The Alfred and Monash University and founder of the Australian Consortium for Women’s Mental Health in Melbourne.
Menopause in the workplace – what’s the real cost?
In this interview, we look at the enormous effect menopause symptoms can have on women at work, and if untreated, the extent of that effect. The chances are, it is affecting one of your patients, you, or someone working for you.
Our guest expert in this interview is Grace Molloy, CEO & Co-founder of Menopause Friendly Australia. She is a commercial health professional and registered nurse and has worked alongside many of Australia’s medical researchers and pharmaceutical companies.
The three most significant symptoms your patients might need help with
In this interview we take a deep dive into three of the most significant symptoms your patients might ask you for help with.
